Manuel Torres Port is the executive vice president, Worldwide Consumer Products, for NBCUniversal Brand Development, where he oversees the NBCUniversal Consumer Products portfolio of franchises.
Manuel was born and raised in Mexico City, where he started his career as a CPA with Arthur Andersen. While there, he had an opportunity to expand his professional interests in sales and marketing. In pursuing this passion, Manuel transitioned to serving as a tax auditor and consultant to help launch distribution businesses in Mexico City. He transitioned back to the corporate world as a trainee for Unilever in its personal-care division, on the sales side. Through work with retailers, Manuel gained understanding and knowledge not only of retail, but also consumer goods and how to manage a brand on a consumer level.
Manuel joined Mattel in 1994, where he took charge of various trade marketing regions, including Latin America and Europe, and got more involved with brand and product development. After stints at Warner Brothers and Viacom, he joined Nickelodeon in 2005, where he was senior vice president of global toys and games for Nickelodeon Consumer Products, one of the leading toy producers in the world. Under his leadership, the company has produced some of its biggest products, lines, and partnerships to date.
Now that Manuel is approaching veteran years in the toy industry, he’s looking at his next steps to extend beyond the realm of his office and towards his own children. For this reason, he supports various nonprofit organizations, including Breastcancer.org: “What I do outside of work I consider very important for mine and my family’s future; there’s so much to contribute to the world, and nonprofit work is very appealing to me. A lot of my energy is going towards this.”
Manuel also serves on the board of directors of the Toy Industry Association, the first Latino on the board. He lives in Los Angeles, CA, with his wife and two daughters.
