Debbie Potts

Debbie Potts is the mother of three children, ages 2, 5, and 10. Two years ago, at age 30, when her youngest was just 12 weeks old, Debbie found a lump in her breast. "Don't worry," said her doctor. But Debbie did, went to a surgeon, and had it removed. The diagnosis: cancer. Lumpectomy, chemo, and radiation followed.

"The best thing I ever did was to join a support group," Debbie says. "I know how important it is to share with other women in similar circumstances. In fact, I think breast cancer made me a much better person. I used to be a cleaning fanatic, had to get things done. Now, I couldn't care less. I tell my kids, 'Get outside and get dirty.' I also tell my kids I do the best I can, whenever they ask hard questions. I'm totally honest. And that's what I want to bring to breastcancer.org." Debbie thinks the Web makes it easier for people to communicate, easier for people, especially men, to express their fears. And for information—nothing's better. Debbie wants to be part of breastcancer.org to help other women take charge of their lives, as she did.
