Lillie Shockney is a registered nurse with a master's degree in Administrative Science from Johns Hopkins University, where she has been employed since 1983. After a personal experience with breast cancer at age 38, she became a volunteer for the Hopkins Breast Center, conducting patient satisfaction surveys, developing quality of care measurement methods, and helping to improve patient care services for women with breast cancer. In 1997 Lillie joined the Breast Center staff as Education and Outreach Director and webmaster, responsible for quality of care and patient education programs, and community outreach. A strong advocate of the value of humor as complementary therapy, she brings a very special voice to breastcancer.org.

Lillie has written books and articles on breast cancer, including Breast Cancer Survivors' Club: A Nurse's Experience. She is the cofounder of a national nonprofit organization, Mothers Supporting Daughters with Breast Cancer, and recently became an Advisory Board and Board of Trustee member of the National Consortium of Breast Centers as well as a member of the National Consumer Advisory Council and of the Board of the National Women's Health Research Center. She is the recipient of the Outstanding Women of America Award; the National Circle of Life Award from Shape Magazine and the National Race for the Cure; the Komen Volunteer Award; Intel's Internet Health Hero Award for the support she provides to patients and families online; and the American Cancer Society's Voice of Hope Award.
