Nancy Bradley was born and raised in Buffalo, NY. She earned her BA at UCLA and her Masters in Social Work from Rutgers University. Nancy has worked for many years as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker—both in an inpatient psychiatric facility and for the past l4 years in the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee, where she works with high-risk pregnancy patients and their families.
In September 1995, Nancy's husband of 26 years died of end-stage renal disease. At that time their two sons were 17 and 21 years old. Three years later, in October 1998, Nancy was diagnosed with breast cancer. Nancy participated in a clinical study of sentinel node biopsy, feeling a responsibility and connection with the women both before and after her. Using her experience and knowledge of mind-body-spiritual connections and complementary medicine, Nancy combined radiation treatments with a holistic approach to boosting her immune system.
One area that has become very special to Nancy is offering help and support services to pregnant patients who also have cancer. As a breast cancer survivor herself, Nancy knows how important it is for women to get counseling from someone who understands their experience.
"I feel honored to be asked to be a member of the breastcancer.org Consumer Advisory Board," says Nancy, "as I respect and appreciate having this group available. I learned of breastcancer.org purely by accident and was thrilled to find this resource. Seeing the level of professionalism and respect that come through on every page of the breastcancer.org web site, I wanted to be a part of it and share its existence with others."
