Maria Theodoulou, M.D.

Page last modified on: October 1, 2008

Dr. Maria Theodoulou is a Board Certified Medical Oncologist who works exclusively with patients diagnosed with early and advanced breast cancer. She is an Associate Attending Physician on the Breast Cancer Medicine Service at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. She also holds an appointment as Professor of Medicine at the Joan & Sanford I. Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York City.

Dr. Theodoulou's clinical research has revolved around the use of targeted therapies in HER2neu overexpressing breast cancer; the evolution of safer anthracyclines in combination with Herceptin; and the optimal use, dosing, and duration of Xeloda. She has been recently awarded a grant by the Manhassett Breast Coalition for the identification of gene products as predictors of breast cancer recurrence.

Dr. Theodoulou's clinical interest reaches beyond the chemotherapy and biologic therapy in the treatment of breast cancer. She takes great interest in further understanding the psychological and emotional concerns of her patients and their families as they are diagnosed, surviving, and living with breast cancer. For this reason, she is eager to participate in breastcancer.org's education and support activities for all those who are dealing with breast cancer.
