Hormonal Therapy

  • Hormonal therapy is a form of whole body (systemic) treatment for breast cancer. It is sometimes called anti-estrogen therapy.
  • In hormonal therapy, drugs are used to reduce or block the effects of hormones (including estrogen and progesterone) that can promote the growth of breast cancer.
  • Hormonal therapy protects your whole body from breast cancer cells that may have been left behind after surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy.
  • It can also lower the risk of a new cancer developing in the other breast.
