"Nancy is always encouraging to those on our Older Christian Women thread, sending PMs as well as public messages to those who need encouragement and a positive word. She frequently posts pictures of her own beautiful photography of nature, as well as banners from inspirational sites. She has a great sense of humor, and a wide range of life experiences to share. She faces numerous health issues, but always [supports] others' needs first."

"If you glance through her posts, you'll see examples of this lady's compassion and care for others. I would like to nominate Nancy, username Bandwoman1234, as the VIP for the Older Christian Women thread. She has not been on there as long as some, including myself, but she has been so vigilant about remembering everyone's prayer request, their problems, triumphs, and needs. She keeps track of everyone and I don't know how she does it. She is a great asset on a thread where people come for support and spiritual help. I would like to see her recognized for all the time and effort she puts into this thread."

Nominated because...
"She tirelessly talks newbies off the wall with well-researched information and she always posts the studies and/or publications where she got the information."

"She always presents information in a scientific way to help members with questions about their diagnosis, treatment, etc. She uses bold font to make certain aspects really clear to the reader. She shows a genuine interest in others on the forum and must spend much time researching on behalf of others to come up with the very helpful information that she does."

"BarredOwl is an extraordinarily valuable member here, in my opinion. So much welcoming, so much time put in, so many helpful informative posts -- and I do not mean the easier kinds of supporting the membership here -- and you can find BarredOwl participating all over the Board!"

"BarredOwl has been helpful to me and others countless times. It's so difficult to get past one's own experiences and problems but she has repeatedly posted helpful information even on topics that are not of personal concern for her. She is also as smart as they come."

"BarredOwl for providing only evidence-based responses, being very detailed, accurate, and thorough in her feedback. One can always rely on BarredOwl's research."

"[She] provides clear, scientifically-based responses with great summaries of the research literature, the significance of lab results, and clarifications. [She is] very responsive to requests for information, and [...] emotionally supportive and kind."

"As long as I've been part of the BCO community, over a year now, BarredOwl has unfailingly and consistantly provided support to members in many different areas of the discussion boards. It is clear that though she is not a medical professional, and always advises as to that fact, she spends enormous amounts of time researching and sharing her results with other members. Her unique and important gift is her ability to explain highly technical and likewise emotional topics in calm and reassuring tones, without any trace of ego. She empathizes, but still is able to deliver high quality information, free of hysteria, suppositions, or junk science. She includes research references, so people can follow up if they desire, or share with their medical team.I can only guess that she has helped hundreds, possibly thousands of women when they need it most. She is thus an immeasurable asset to this site."

"She is just amazing! She is not only a mountain of knowledge but a fantastic support too. She has messaged me numerous times and I am sure I am not the only one she supports this way either. I feel she is my very own breast health nurse! She must spend hours supporting the ladies on here and without a doubt has helped so very many ladies at a very tough and emotional time in their lives. Without her life would have been much, much harder these past few weeks. I have to say I have received more support and information from her than any other member of my healthcare team! I would love to meet her in person and give her a huge hug! Thanks so much, Beesie, you truly are one of a kind."

"ChiSandy is the greatest!! Every thread I go on, she is there giving fantastic advice and loving support to all. She is awesome and a fellow breast cancer supporter to all!!!"

"She is a fantastic resource of information and if there is controversy in someone's 'facts', she will tactfully show evidence to explain why that person may be incorrect."

"ChiSandy has been both a wealth of information as well as an emotional support for so many of us in these forums. As a newbie to breast cancer, I came to the discussions full of questions and quite a bit of anxiety. Sandy not only gave me very factual straight forward explanations, but also encouraged me keep a positive outlook. Whichever forum or topic I go into, Sandy is the one who is answering questions. While so many of the women on these boards are knowledgeable, ChiSandy has really done the research and so many look to her for help."

"Stephanie has selflessly helped so many people despite her own ongoing health concerns. She will be greatly missed by everyone here."

"Longtermsurvivor greeted me in my early days at BCO. She had some information on SKT-11, of which she has a mutation and I have a VUS of SKT-11. I started following her posts, and learned a lot about forgiveness and positive outlooks. When my friend/neighbor was declining rapidly, and eventually went on hospice, Longtermsurvivor had many helpful ideas to help my neighbor. Longtermsurvivor continues to instruct and inspire many of us, even while her symptoms have increased and she is in her final decline as well."

"I joined the Kiwi Ladies thread in March this year and after being on that thread for one week only, Nikki offered me her two high-quality silicone prostheses and five mastectomy bras because I had commented that I didn't have any and was procrastinating about buying them. She hadn't worn them and gave them to me for no payment at all (I offered but she was adamant she didn't want payment). They fit me well luckily and look and feel great. I was absolutely stunned at her generosity and kindness. Her husband even dropped them to my house! She has been through a lot with treatment etc. and I am forever grateful for her thoughtfulness to me."

"Peggy is the unofficial keeper of the Lumpectomy Lounge thread, which I joined shortly after finding these boards close to the time of my original diagnosis. There were times when her unwavering support and no-nonsense but supportive approach really was my 'thread' to keep me going. She is a model for what positive support can be. Yay for Peggy!"

"There is one sweet member who immediately comes to mind as a VIP: Pontiac Peggy in the Lumpectomy Lounge. She is the unofficial greeter for new members, and always has sweet and encouraging comments for everyone. Her kindness and warmth shine through in every post. I've been posting for a little over six months and she has been around much longer. [...] Peggy consistently is quick to respond to new posters with encouragement, caring, and humor. She is the best!"

"She has been an amazing source of comfort and welcome to everyone. She has gone through breast cancer while having to take care of her debilitated husband who eventually passed on. Her responses are always thoughtful and kind."

"She's always encouraging, upbeat, empathetic and shares her experience freely. When I first came to BCO I felt lost until I happened upon The Lumpectomy Lounge and Peggy. Even though her husband was terminally ill and, yes, even as he was passing away, Peggy was there to support and encourage. She always helps new members add their diagnosis and procedures to their profiles and makes them feel welcome. She's a great representative of BCO."

"SlowDeepBreaths started the Crazytown thread which is SO helpful to me and to so many, but most importantly, she is one of the kindest, most caring people on these boards: even though she is dealing with more than her share of 'stuff' related to breast cancer (including recently diagnosed mets) she ALWAYS thinks of others and asks after everyone's health and well-being and shows how much she cares. She really puts others first; gotta love her kindness. I am grateful for her friendship. I wish I could be half the loving person she is!"

Nominated because...
"Her message to me when I was first diagnosed was awesome. I was new, scared, and didn't know what to do. Her advice was I could do it, all of it. Take it one day, one hour at a time. Her message was so encouraging to me. I reread it several times. It gave me so much strength. I thought about it a lot when going through all that treatment. She gives tremendous advice to all."

"Awesome advice and keeps up to date with new treatments, research and studies. Translates the medical and research talk into plain English (American) for the rest of us."

"SpecialK for being so generous in sharing her - unfortunately - plentiful experiences with many treatment aspects including breast reconstruction."

"Her knowledge, especially in the Triple Positive Group but also elsewhere, is second-to-none."

"SpecialK provided me with invaluable information when I was getting chemo -- specifically how to avoid neuropathy from the drugs."

"...she is so intelligent, helpful, and accurate with all the information she imparts via this blog."

"[She is] so supportive, encouraging, and an inspiration to me when I first was diagnosed and joined Breastcancer.org.
