Many Breastcancer.org visitors are outraged about the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommendations on mammography and have asked us what they can do to have their voices heard on this issue. As a result, we started a petition.

The goals of this petition are two-fold:

  1. To encourage governing bodies and key medical institutions to preserve the present screening guidelines
  2. To enable supporters of the task force recommendations to hear and understand the scale of opposition to changing the current breast cancer screening guidelines

While we gather supporters for this petition, we are finalizing our research on where we will send it. Presently, our plan is to send this petition to the following organizations and individuals:

  • American Cancer Society: Issues the current guidelines
  • National Cancer Institute: Issues the current guidelines
  • Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality: The governing body for the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force
  • Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services: vitally important as their stance on Medicare coverage will likely drive similar policies for insurers
  • U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
  • World Health Organization
  • individual task force members
  • Dr. Susan Love and other vocal supporters
  • news media
  • state senators and members of Congress
  • major insurance providers
  • key medical organizations, such as the American Society of Clinical Oncologists, Oncology Nursing Society, the American Medical Association, the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the American Association of Family Practitioners
  • other breast cancer advocacy organizations

Please join the Breastcancer.org Discussion Boards and sign the petition to have your voice heard.

Together we can make a difference
