As breast cancer patients and survivors, we all hope to see a cure for breast cancer in our lifetimes. And we recognize that until that day arrives, there is a daily need to take care of every woman and family who is navigating the breast cancer journey.
In my opinion, Breastcancer.org truly meets that daily need. I have heard Breastcancer.org referred to as “the care until the cure.” Isn’t that the truth?!
There I was a mom, wife, sister, daughter, a former member of the Navy, an entrepreneur. I was accomplished. I had hit my pace — “40 and fabulous” as we like to say. Then it happened… “You have breast cancer.” My diagnosis was a complete shock. I have no family history of breast cancer; I am reasonably fit…not at high risk. But there it was. Breast cancer.
You all know the after-diagnosis “drill:” a flurry of decisions need to be made. How will I tell my child? Will I lose my hair? Which reconstruction option will work? It’s all overwhelming.
I was lucky. I was already familiar with Breastcancer.org so I knew that there was a credible resource that I could turn to for facts, expert medical information, and an amazing community of peer support. Breastcancer.org was essential in helping me clear away the confusion and stay focused so that I could make the decisions I needed to make.
But what about people who are not as lucky as you and I? What about people who don’t know about Breastcancer.org? Can you even imagine what it would be like to have to figure this all out on your own?
I am so incredibly grateful to be here to love and cherish my son, William, and my husband, Lee, and to laugh with my girlfriends for another day. It’s important to me that I pay it forward so that others can have this incredible resource.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and in its honor I’m asking you to pay it forward, too. With your donation, we can all help the team at Breastcancer.org reach people who have no idea about “the care until the cure.” It could change their lives forever — and wouldn’t that be amazing!
With gratitude,
