Wait time for biopsy results?

Question from emtdmm: I'm scheduled to go for surgery for a lump in my breast, not a cyst, in seven hours. They tell me I won't know if it is cancerous for three to five days. Is this normal?
Answer —Marisa Weiss, M.D., president and founder: It may take three to five days to do a careful analysis of the lump under the microscope. They have to be extremely careful to come to the right conclusion. The uncertainty stinks! All of you know that so well.
