Maria Theodoulou, M.D. is a Board Certified Medical Oncologist who works exclusively with patients diagnosed with early and advanced breast cancer. She is an associate attending physician on the Breast Cancer Medicine Service at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. She also holds an appointment as professor of medicine at the Joan & Sanford I. Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York City. Dr. Theodoulou's clinical research has revolved around the use of targeted therapies in HER2neu overexpressing breast cancer; the evolution of safer anthracyclines in combination with Herceptin; and the optimal use, dosing, and duration of Xeloda. She has been recently awarded a grant by the Manhassett Breast Coalition for the identification of gene products as predictors of breast cancer recurrence. Dr. Theodoulou's clinical interest reaches beyond the chemotherapy and biologic therapy in the treatment of breast cancer. She takes great interest in further understanding the psychological and emotional concerns of her patients and their families as they are diagnosed, surviving, and living with breast cancer. Dr. Theodoulou is also a member of Breastcancer.org's Professional Advisory Board.
Breastcancer.org Founder and President Marisa Weiss, M.D. is the co-author of the new book, Taking Care of Your “Girls:" A Breast Health Guide for Girls, Teens, and In-Betweens and the acclaimed book, Living Beyond Breast Cancer. She frequently serves as a responsible voice on breast health and breast cancer to live and print media, including ABC’s Good Morning America, NBC’s TODAY, CNN breast cancer segments, Lifetime TV, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and USA Today. Dr. Weiss speaks regularly at national conferences and is the recipient of awards from the American Cancer Society, Coping magazine, and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. She served two terms on the National Cancer Institute Director's Consumer Liaison Group, with a special interest in strengthening the sacred patient-doctor relationship.
Tamara Shulman, Ph.D., F.A.A.C.P. is a clinical psychologist based in the New York City area who works with adults, adolescents, and children. She received her doctorate from Hofstra University and a postdoctoral certificate in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis from New York University. She is currently on the Mental Health Advisory Board of St. Mary's Hospital in New Jersey. Dr. Shulman's clinical experience includes more than 25 years in private practice where she combines psychodynamic, cognitive, and behavioral techniques. She also specializes in helping people and their families deal with the crisis of serious illness. Her consulting practice focuses on crisis intervention in corporate, family business, banking and not-profit organizations, enhancing stress management and communication and staff development. Dr. Shulman is also a member of Breastcancer.org's Professional Advisory Board.
