Question from LNB: What is the difference between infertility and premature ovarian failure?
Answer —Kutluk Oktay, M.D.: These are just different shades of the same problem. Usually menopause is the last stage of the process of losing ovarian function. Infertility comes first typically, and then menopause occurs. But if the treatment is strong enough, they can happen simultaneously.
