Kathryn Schmitz, Ph.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.S.M. is assistant professor in the Division of Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Pennsylvania and adjunct associate professor in the Division of Epidemiology at the University of Minnesota. She is currently the principal or co-investigator for a number of research studies examining the role of physical activity in the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation from diseases, including one looking at breast cancer survivors and one following women at risk of breast cancer. Dr. Schmitz has won multiple awards from the American Heart Association, including the Jeremiah Stamler Award for New Investigators and the Trudy Bush Fellowship for Cardiovascular Research in Women's Health.
Nicole Stout Gergich, M.P.T., C.L.T.-L.A.N.A. is a physical therapist and lymphedema specialist. She has been working as a lymphedema specialist since 1999. She received her lymphedema training from the KloseNorton School and has gone on to pass her CLT-LANA specialist exam in 2001. Ms. Stout Gergich is currently the lead physical therapist in the Breast Care Center at the National Naval Medical Center where she works in both a clinical and research capacity studying upper extremity morbidity associated with breast cancer treatment. In addition, she serves as an instructor with Norton School for Lymphedema Training as well as an adjunct instructor with Arcadia University’s School of Physical Therapy. She is currently the president of the Oncology Section of the American Physical Therapy Association, and has previously served on the Medical Advisory Board and research committee for the National Lymphedema Network. Additionally, Ms. Stout Gergich is a former member of the board of directors for the Lymphology Association of North America (LANA).
Jennifer Sabol, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a breast surgeon who directs the newly developed Breast Care Center at Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood, PA., and maintains staff privileges at Lankenau Hospital and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Among her many interests, Dr. Sabol spearheads several research initiatives to advance the care for women with breast cancer and improve methods of breast cancer detection and treatment. She has appeared on CNN to discuss breast cancer-related issues and is a frequent lecturer. Dr. Sabol's training includes an undergraduate degree with honors from Franklin and Marshall College followed by a degree in medicine from Jefferson Medical College. She then completed her surgical training at Baystate Medical Center in Massachusetts and went on to become the Seeger Fellow in Surgical Oncology of the Breast at Baylor University Medical Center. Dr. Sabol has held an appointment at Jefferson Medical College as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery since 1997. While she is board certified in general surgery, her practice is currently focused on the treatment of diseases of the breast. She is also a member of Breastcancer.org's Professional Advisory Board.
