Does Taxol cause menopause?

Question from JJ: Where does Taxol fall in the most/least likely to induce permanent menopause? I know that different chemotherapy drugs have different degrees of impact on ovaries.
Answer —Charles Loprinzi, M.D.: It's not well-known how Taxol (chemical name: paclitaxel) rates in terms of causing menopause. This is because it is rarely used alone in young women with breast cancer. My guess is that it would not be high on the list of drugs that cause menopausal symptoms, such as Cytoxan (chemical name: cyclophosphamide).
