Essiac Tea


Also known as: burdock root, powdered sheep sorrel root, powdered slippery elm bark, and powdered rhubarb root (these are the four plants that essiac tea is made from).

Potential uses: Essiac tea is used as a general tonic and immune system booster. There are claims that it can treat cancer.

Usual dose: 2 to 4 ounces per day.

Are there any risks? Side effects may include nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, and rash. Effects may be worse in people with poor kidney or liver function.

What does the research show? There is no research to support the claimed benefits of essiac tea. It is not recommended to treat or reduce the risk of breast cancer or any other cancer.
