Also known as: Kojo-kon, phytoestrogen, protykin.

Potential uses: It's thought that resveratrol increases HDL (high-density lipoprotein, or "good") cholesterol. There are also claims that resveratrol can reduce the risk of some cancers. Resveratrol is a weak phytoestrogen and also acts as an antioxidant.

Usual dose: There is no typical dose. Resveratrol is found in red wine, red grape skins, purple grape juice, mulberries, and peanuts.

Are there any risks? Because of its weak estrogen effects, only small amounts of resveratrol are suggested for women with breast cancer.

What does the research say? No clinical studies show any influence on breast cancer. However, foods that contain resveratrol are part of a healthy diet.
