Side Effects of ERDs

Page last modified on: May 27, 2008

Faslodex (chemical name: fulvestrant) is the only ERD available today. It is given as an injection (shot) to treat post-menopausal women with advanced hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer who have not responded to other types of hormonal therapy.

Side effects include:

  • Redness at the injection site: Faslodex can cause reactions at the injection site such as redness, swelling, and pain. This is especially true if two small injections are given rather than one large injection.
  • Stomach upset: Faslodex may cause upset stomach in some women.
  • Other symptoms: Faslodex may cause headache and back pain in some women.

Faslodex has not been studied long enough to know what its effect is on bone health.
