Importance of taking tamoxifen on time?

Question from Jennifer: How important is it for me to take my tamoxifen at the same time every day? I take it between 8-11 p.m. depending on when I go to bed. Thanks.
Answer —Patricia Ganz, M.D.: Unlike the aromatase inhibitors, tamoxifen has a very long half life and after you have been taking it for months, you have steady blood levels. So if you miss several doses or don't take it at the same time every day, there is very little variation in the blood level. Nevertheless, it's wise to try to take it at the same time every day so you don't forget, but not rigidly at the same hour.
