How long to use Abraxane?

Question from Isabel: I’m taking Abraxane as maintenance every 1-2 weeks for a second primary, this time inflammatory. Abraxane causes severe diarrhea and stomach cramps. What is suggested, since most anti-nausea meds cause a reaction? Also, how long can you use Abraxane?
Answer —Patricia Ganz, M.D.: In general, Abraxane is used as long as the treatment is working. I am not sure if you are getting this because you have measurable metastatic disease or in an adjuvant setting. It is really best to ask your doctor about your personal situation.
