  • Added help contact email on log in error page for users unable to log in.

  • Corrected issue with free-form signature box clearing information when editing profile info.

The following is an update regarding a misconfigured S3 data bucket.

We recently learned that a S3 bucket containing member-uploaded images and avatars was misconfigured. On May 4, 2022 we restricted all access to the bucket, including temporarily restricting the access of our registered users, thereby blocking anyone from viewing the images. We have also engaged a team of third-party experts to investigate. We expect that investigation to be complete soon.

On May 11, 2022, we restored user access to images on our site and enabled the functionality to view and edit avatar images, images with posts, and images in private messages in the community discussion forums.

These are the measures we have taken:

  • We reconfigured the Amazon Web Services (AWS) S3 bucket, our cloud storage container, where images are stored to tighten access and role permissions per AWS best practices.

  • We removed the metadata associated with all historical and new uploaded images. This metadata is standard information that specifies the formats for images, sound, and ancillary tags used by digital cameras and commonly displayed on digital images.

  • As an additional layer of security, we also implemented pre-signed tokens that allow only the community website (or approved staff) to load or download images.

Some images may not render properly within posts, private messages, and your avatar. We are working to resolve this over time. To help us in this effort, please contact us if you do not see your avatar or images being displayed.

Profile and community signatures
  • Refined profile caching in the community discussion forum signatures to more quickly display profile updates to community signatures and improve site performance.

  • Corrected inaccurate rendering of information saved to the profile, including:

    • Date format for year in treatment signature (ex. year was listed as 0002 instead of 2012).

    • Breast reconstruction types

    • Radiation treatment to another part of the body

    • Chemotherapy showing as “other” even when specified

    • Where cancer was found if other than your breast

  • Ability to edit whether you’ve had genetic testing done

  • Improved SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to better help those in need find our resources.

Community maintenance
  • Enabled and configured automatically renewing SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) Certificates to provide end-to-end, industry-standard encryption and integrity for all web requests to ensure information is transmitted securely. We are using SSL FastTrack to keep the information shared with the community safe and secure.

  • Streamlined admin reporting for new member registration to better support first time users, and quickly identify spam accounts.

  • Implemented styling updates for brand consistency.

    Additional note: Our deployments this week attempting to remedy profile issues (including HER2 status, HER2 tests, treatment dates, and “other” treatment notations) were rolled back due to subsequent errors. These fixes are our priority for the coming days.

Log in / Log out
  • Resolved issue causing logged in users to be logged out in the community when responding to a post or clicking a link to visit a post, thread, or forum from Active Topics and My Favorites.

  • Fixed issue preventing logged in users from signing out from their profile.

  • When logged out, clicking the “Login in to post a reply” button will now take the user back to the initial forum or post location upon successful login.

    If you are still experiencing issues getting logged out please sign out of your profile, clear your cache (browser history), and log back in.

Profile and Community
  • Fixed saving diagnosis issue when adding a diagnosis to your profile.

  • Removed dash in first and last name in profile edit view.

  • Corrected bracket characters rendering in member community signature.

  • Resolved HTML code displaying in search results.

  • Updated navigation and footer text and links for community and comunidad.

  • Implemented style formatting adjustments to improve readability and consistency (ex. pagination overlapping text).

Educational content
  • Fixed logo image sizing for sponsored content.

  • Completed Spanish educational content url redirects to a new destination link. Site visitors should no longer land on a 404 page not found.

  • Reimplemented the ability to save and remove educational content (articles, podcasts, research news, videos, personal stories, etc.) to your profile for you to come back to later.

Community maintenance

    • Updated the ‘USEFUL RESOURCES’ quick links for community and comunidad

    • Fixed the ‘Select a forum’ dropdown menu for visitors to be able to:

      • Select a category (category examples: Welcome to or Not Diagnosed But Concerned) and the page will scroll to the selected category on the All topics page (

      • Select a forum (forum examples: Just diagnosed or Genetic Testing) and go directly to the selected forum page.

  • Top navigation link updates to educational content destinations.

  • Footer text and link updates for community and comunidad.

  • Comunidad mobile menu labels no longer appear in english.

  • Style formatting adjustments to improve readability and consistency.

  • Added ability to customize public vs. private profile settings.

  • Reduced the number of posts appearing per page from 15 to 10 to improve page load time and site stability.

Error messages and load time
  • Increased site memory bandwidth and errors on the community experience to help improve site speed.

  • We are keeping a close watch on and making immediate fixes to sitewide error reports that result in you seeing error messages. We will continue to monitor and fix these errors, and as a result will be improving site performance and load time.

Community and profile
  • Forgotten password user flow fixed.

  • Calendar date picker to enter your birth date fixed.

  • Change of email is now sending verification email.

  • Users are now able to delete diagnosis and treatment from profile.

  • Avatar issues (displaying text or modified version) are fixed.

Navigation and footer
  • Links in the community dropdown menu from are updated.

  • “Join the community” link no longer visible once signed in.

  • Broken footer links and copy now updated.

  • Language dropdown on mobile is now visible.

Educational content
  • Section jump link for article pages, FAQs, and research news are updated.

  • Podcast published date corrections are showing.

  • Research news and podcasts default to sorted by “Latest” instead of “Relevance”.

  • Research new: Updated broken links from category pages.

  • Videos thumbnails are now all displaying at the same size.

  • Improved video performance and quality more efficiently to improve site speed.

  • We have increased the type size for community posts and made the text darker to be more legible.

  • We have updated the visited links style to appear in purple.

Error messages and load time
  • We are keeping a close watch on and making immediate fixes to sitewide error reports that result in you seeing error messages. We will continue to monitor and fix these errors, and as a result will be improving site performance and load time.

  • If you see an error message, wait a minute and refresh the page. This should help to load the site for you.

  • As part of the site migration we have updated many links. If you land on a 404 page not found error message, please copy and paste the link resulting in the 404 page not found error and share with us in the form below.

Log in/Reset password
  • If you were having trouble logging in, we have resolved the issues to reset your password. Be sure to check your spam folder.

  • On mobile, you will now see Log in at the top of the menu from

  • The search icon in the top navigation on desktop is now linking to the community search.

  • The Spanish/English language toggle is now working on desktop and mobile.

  • If you were unable to see some of your diagnostic, treatment, or personal information in your profile when you logged in, it should be visible now in your profile.

  • We are continuing to work on making your profile settings editable by you. For now, the settings are how you had them set before the site update.
