Senior Director of Content

Since 2000, we have reached 194 million people worldwide. Breastcancer.org receives more than 20 million visits each year, and we host the world’s largest online breast cancer peer community, with more than 200,000 registered members.
We are looking for an energetic, passionate leader to be a part of our organization during a time of exciting growth. This person will help to plan and deliver educational content and resources for a patient and caregiver audience who rely on Breastcancer.org for accurate, up-to-date health information and support so they can make informed decisions about their breast cancer care.
As Senior Director of Content, you will be at the heart of our mission’s core focus. You will lead the effort to take breast health- and breast cancer-related digital content from strategy to publication by overseeing a diverse team of staff, freelance contributors, medical advisers, and vendors. You will lead the strategic development of original and user-generated content, inclusive of video, podcast episodes, and interactive media.
You will be responsible for the development of content that is aligned with our mission — to help the person in need of information and support. You are also responsible for maintaining quality and consistency across media types to grow traffic, improve search engine results, deepen audience engagement, and raise brand visibility.
Develop and execute content plans, including SEO/SERP strategies
Ensure our content (including articles, videos, podcast episodes, special reports) are crafted to tell a compelling narrative that is clear and actionable for our audience
Research and stay knowledgeable about breast cancer-related topics and the patient experience
Collaborate with staff and our Professional Advisory Board of medical experts and key opinion leaders to brainstorm topic areas
Work closely with the Managing Editor to supervise contributors and reviewers and ensure deadlines are met and style guide requirements are achieved
Top level editing of all submitted content for accuracy, relevancy, and cohesiveness
Familiarity with our content management system
Work closely with Managing Editor to ensure all published content meets quality standards, including rigorous medical review process to ensure accuracy
Analyze and report content performance and overall site traffic
Coordinate with marketing and design teams to illustrate or animate articles
Manage multiple projects to reach goals and deadlines while collaborating closely with a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external, on all aspects of projects, including planning, content, production level and platforms, turnaround time, approvals, and budget estimates
Proven experience as a digital content strategist and editor (10-15 year minimum)
Health-related experience a must; newsroom experience a plus
Digital editing skills with an exceptional portfolio of published work
Creative mind, collaborative thinker, and achiever
Ability to translate complex medical and lifestyle ideas for a consumer audience
Strong attention to and appreciation for detail
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Ambitious, intellectually curious, optimistic, and generous
Comfortable working in an entrepreneurial, multitasking environment
