As a patient advocacy non-profit organization, we are alarmed and heartbroken by the Supreme Court’s ruling to revoke federal abortion rights.

Like all medical decisions, having an abortion is a personal choice. It is a decision that is made with serious consideration, and there are many circumstances in which abortion should safely be available. The restrictions will undoubtedly endanger lives.

The stakes are high. For people of childbearing age with cancer, having access to reproductive care and fertility options like IVF before and after treatment is critical. These are decisions that should be between a patient and their doctor.

While many people will feel the impact of losing this freedom, those who don’t have the ability to travel to states where abortion is currently legal will be hit hardest. Disparities will deepen.

We’ve made too much progress to go back in time. We want a future where all people have autonomy over their bodies and their healthcare decisions. We stand by the right to choose.
