Virtual Support Group Facilitator
Breastcancer.org, the leading online resource for breast cancer and breast health, is seeking a compassionate, experienced part-time facilitator to lead virtual support groups for people diagnosed with breast cancer and their caregivers.
This position is ideal for someone with a strong background in mental health, nursing, oncology support, or psychosocial care who brings both clinical insight and deep empathy to group facilitation. A strong understanding of breast cancer, treatment experiences, survivorship, recurrence, metastatic disease, and caregiver challenges is essential.
As a facilitator, you will play an important role in advancing our mission: to support and empower everyone impacted by breast cancer through trusted information, connection, and compassionate community.
Key Responsibilities
Facilitate or co-facilitate 1- 3 virtual support groups each week or every other week (around 120 minutes per session)
Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where participants feel supported sharing openly
Guide thoughtful, supportive conversations while managing group dynamics with sensitivity and professionalism
Support participants navigating treatment, survivorship, recurrence, grief, uncertainty, anxiety, and caregiving challenges
Share relevant educational resources and Breastcancer.org content when appropriate
Recognize when participants may need additional emotional or clinical support and provide referrals when necessary
Manage scheduling, participant registration, and confirmation emails through Zoom
Send follow-up communication and maintain session documentation in shared Google Sheets
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in nursing, social work, counseling, psychology, or a related mental health or healthcare field
Experience facilitating support groups, preferably in oncology, chronic illness, or grief support settings
Strong knowledge of breast cancer, including treatments, side effects, survivorship concerns, metastatic disease, and the emotional impact on patients and caregivers
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills
Ability to navigate emotionally complex conversations with empathy, professionalism, and sound judgment
Experience working with diverse populations and creating inclusive, trauma-informed spaces
Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently while collaborating closely with a remote team
Comfort using Zoom, Slack, Google Docs and Sheets
Preferred
Oncology social work or oncology nursing experience
Familiarity with trauma-informed or participant-centered facilitation approaches
Experience supporting caregivers and individuals living with metastatic breast cancer
