The Best Wireless Mastectomy Bras, According to Our Community

At some point during breast cancer treatment or recovery, you may decide to swear off underwire bras. Whether your doctor has advised you to avoid them, or you simply want more comfort and flexibility as you go through breast reconstruction or recovery, there is no need for added armature when there are so many supportive, comfortable, great-looking options without it. We asked our Community to share the brands and styles they go to again and again. Here’s what they told us.
What to look for
Tracey Cohen, a bra fitter for more than 40 years, notes that just because a bra is wireless doesn’t mean you shouldn’t seek a perfect fit. “The breast tissue should be completely enclosed within the cup, the band should sit level around the body without riding up, and the straps shouldn’t dig into the shoulders,” she says. “You should be able to comfortably fit around two fingers underneath the straps to check for the ideal tightness.”
Our community members suggest you also keep these things in mind:
Closure: Consider how you want to get in and out of your bra. Many community members prefer front closure styles you can step into.
No rubbing anywhere: Look for cup edges that clear any breast or lymph node incision spots to avoid irritation.
Pockets: Pockets with removable pads give you options, including the ability to double up on one side to counteract any asymmetry.
Comfort: The best bras are constructed with soft fabric that you barely notice.
Insurance coverage: Many health insurance plans will foot the bill for post-mastectomy bras.
Best sports-bra style
Ameona was by far the most mentioned brand by our community members, particularly the Amoena Linda sports bra style. “Wide straps, slits for prosthetics, no wire, very comfy!” says Lisa T. Many also noted that this bra is lymphedema-friendly and that the line has a range of styles. “Amoena has lots of options to rebuild your bra wardrobe after surgery. Soft, or wired, lacy or plain, sporty support, lymph moving, or surgical recovery,” says Kristen M.
Best plunging neckline bra
Sometimes you need a great V-neck bra. Founded by a survivor and "made by breasties for breasties," AnaOno bras are constructed from soft, scar-friendly material. While this bralette style might not be supportive enough for fuller chests, our Community gives it high marks for comfort and longevity. “[I’m still wearing] AnaOno after my bilateral and direct-to-implant reconstruction 13 years ago. LOVE these bras!!" says Pamela H. “I’m still wearing it 2 [years] after [my] lumpectomy because it's comfy," says Wendy B.C.
AnaOno also will help support you with insurance billing for post-mastectomy coverage.
Prettiest design
This UK brand (which ships to the U.S.) is as gorgeous as it is comfortable. "I found Nicola Jane online, [it’s] a shop in London. Their T-shirt bra is great," says Cindy M. “Nicola Jane [has] beautiful bras, [many with] front opening!” says Karen D. Some commenters highlighted the bras’ well-made removable pads that they even use in their other bras. Others note that this is their go-to “special occasion” bra.
Best support for large chests
Finally, wireless support that works for larger cup sizes. The bra’s structured side panels do the containment job that underwire typically would.
“I'm in love,” says one Community member. “[I had a] lumpectomy with a breast reduction. I've always been a DD/DDD under wire bra girl… but now… wireless and comfortable… the sides are thick and [they] keep everything together.”
Many Community members appreciate that Honeylove is a mass market retail brand, not a medical one, so you don’t feel like you’re shopping from a mastectomy catalog. Commenters love the prosthetic pockets, but some note that getting into them can be challenging because the openings are small.
Best feels-like-I’m-not-wearing-a-bra bra
This bra is beloved for having zero rib pressure—a standout for our Community members who can't tolerate a band. “It took me more than two years of uncomfortable shenanigans with professional fitters, silicone prosthetics, super expensive stuff, custom made from Nordstrom, and more ... but FINALLY I tried Busted Tank and I'm not going to look back,” says Susan P.
“I had a unilateral mastectomy and am about a C cup in my other breast. Pre-mastectomy I despised any kind of pressure on my ribs and that's only gotten worse after surgery. They are so, so comfy and very stretchy. Absolutely no digging or pressure. They're definitely not lifting or hugely supporting, but if you are looking for softness and just a touch of support and coverage, I cannot recommend them enough,” says Stephanie J.
Best post-surgical bra
When you’re just out from surgery, this front-close bra is a great option. It has built-in drain management, it’s comfortable enough to sleep in, and is easy to put on and take off. "Masthead bras are designed for women post surgery. It was what I came out of my lumpectomy surgery wearing in July 2025. It was incredibly comfortable day and night and so easy to take off and on. Front closure is a must. This is my second time having breast cancer. In 2014 after 4 (yes FOUR) surgeries I was never given or found a good bra. The drain management on the Masthead bras would have been a game changer for me,” says Carol B. Many Community members also keep wearing these long after the drains are out. "Love these even without drains now. So comfy," says Natalie F.G.
Best bra tank
Who says you need to actually wear a bra to get all its benefits? These Uniqlo tank tops with a built-in shelf and pads may be everything you need and nothing more. "I'm wearing Uniqlo Airism tank tops with no bra or cups in the camisole/top. [It] covers all the scars and such and nothing digs in. Pure comfort," says Royce E. If removable pads drive you crazy and aren't part of your needs, this bra and shirt in one is a great option.
