Diana's Story: A Positive Attitude Makes the Difference
Diana A.L. is a Breastcancer.org Community member in Galesburg, Illinois, USA.
I was diagnosed one year ago, right during my immigration process, just married and away from my family and friends.
Since the very beginning, I decided to educate myself to understand my new condition. I only chose reliable sources such as Breastcancer.org, universities, books, hospitals, organizations, and notes from survivors and my healthcare team to face it prepared in all the possible ways.
As I could, I continued practicing yoga, mindfulness, therapy, and watching my sleeping and nutrition, paying special attention to this last one: doing my best to keep my mind in balance while my body was/is struggling.
Chemo really will drain your energy, so having your support system up and running beforehand is key during those days.
I experienced fear, but I didn't allow it to take control. However, I never gave up, somehow I kept my natural optimistic attitude that was the key part of my day-to-day. I gathered all the good I had in my life, and appreciate and value my good days, my husband's dedication, and support from my family and friends at [a] distance, and the special support from my new friend/neighbor.
I'm in remission now! Since my surgeon found no evidence of cancer, and my test results were also cancer free. I have two treatments left and I can see myself as a survivor with a more positive perspective moving forward. I am happy and doing my best!
