Kenneth H. Cowan, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Kenneth Cowan is Director of the Eppley Cancer Center and the Eppley Institute for Research in Cancer and Allied Diseases at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Prior to this position, he spent his entire career at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, where, beginning in 1988, he served as chief of the Medical Breast Cancer Section, Medicine Branch. In his NCI position, he led a team of 12 laboratory researchers and a clinical staff of six performing trials in patients with breast cancer. His research focuses on the mechanisms of drug resistance, the biology of breast cancer, and gene therapy.

In 2002, Dr. Cowan was one of seven scientists appointed by the President as a representative to the National Cancer Advisory Board (NCAB). The NCAB advises the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services and the Director of the NCI on the activities of the Institute.
