Norman Berk is a highly regarded financial planner and investment manager based in Birmingham, Alabama. Trained as an accountant and a lawyer, he devotes his working life to helping people carefully plan their future, preparing for any possibility. He's used to dealing in "what ifs" and "maybes," but when his wife, Phyllis, developed breast cancer, her diagnosis dragged his family into a world of fear and uncertainty none of them had ever before encountered.
Luckily, Phyllis has recovered fully. And Norman, who'd always worked for community charities, decided the time had come to do something about breast cancer in his community. Together with a few others who shared his vision, he created The Breast Cancer Research Foundation to help women and their families obtain the best quality of care in Birmingham. The Foundation has raised more than $2,000,000 for breast cancer research, all of which has been donated to the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Alabama Birmingham.
Norman joined the Breastcancer.org Professional Advisory Board because he wanted to reach beyond his own community and make a significant difference in the lives of women around the world struggling to overcome breast cancer. It was his own visionary thinking and the generosity of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation board that resulted in the Foundation making a gift of the domain name "Breastcancer.org" to ibreast.
Thus, in the spring of 2001, ibreast.org officially became Breastcancer.org, guaranteeing a much stronger presence on the Web and greater overall reach. When he's not focusing on breast cancer issues, Norman is the co-owner and founder of Berk Cleveland Rathmell Wealth Strategies, a financial planning and asset management firm in Birmingham.
