Scott K. Sullivan, M.D., F.A.C.S., board certified as both a plastic and general surgeon, is the co-founder of the Center for Restorative Breast Surgery (CRBS) and the St. Charles Surgical Hospital — the only hospital in the world dedicated to breast reconstruction for women facing breast cancer — where he is pioneering landmark breast reconstruction techniques. Dr. Sullivan is a leader in the area of breast reconstructive surgery at a national and international level.
Dr. Sullivan has performed over 3,000 breast reconstruction surgeries since the inception of the CRBS in 2003. Within the field of microsurgery he has made major practical surgical advances. His area of focus is breast reconstruction using the body’s own tissue. These techniques are called perforator flaps. Dr. Sullivan, in collaboration with Frank J. DellaCroce, M.D., F.A.C.S., has pioneered several of these breast reconstructive techniques, including bilateral simultaneous GAP and hip flap reconstruction, stacked flap (stacked DIEP, stacked hip flaps), extended DIEP flaps, single stage composite breast reconstruction (single stage DIEP flap with implant), body lift flap, and endoscopic assisted DIEP flap breast reconstruction.
Dr. Sullivan and CRBS were the early pioneers of nipple sparing mastectomies followed by immediate reconstruction.
The groundbreaking advances in breast reconstruction that Dr. Sullivan has developed have distinguished him as one of the most sought-after microsurgeons in the world.
Dr. Sullivan is a graduate of Louisiana State University Health Science Center and of the Hospital’s general surgery internship program. He completed residencies in both general surgery and plastic and reconstructive surgery at LSU before founding the Center for Restorative Breast Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of numerous societies, including the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, as well as the Louisiana Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the New Orleans Surgical Society. Dr. Sullivan is an honorary board member of Susan G. Komen. He has numerous publications to his credit, with particular emphasis on the newest methods of breast reconstruction, and he has lectured on the same subject. The American Cancer Society has named Dr. Sullivan a Spirit Award Honoree for going above and beyond in the fight against cancer. Best Doctors, Inc. recently named Dr. Sullivan one of the “Best Doctors in America.”
