Diagnosed March 24th with IDC. Had a hysterectomy 20 years ago — thought because of that I would not have to worry... NOPE! Mammograms for 22 years negative. This year: "Oh, we saw something. We need you back." And I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

The first month is a whirlwind of appointments, tests, and decisions. Also a month of hopelessness and worry about yourself and your family and survival. The facebook groups were very helpful in preparing for surgery. I opted for a double masectomy and was a candidate for immediate reconstruction this was an easy decision for me I had a 30% chance of the cancer recurring in the left breast.

Make your own decisions and ask questions of your team. Stay away from negative people. Up front state that you need positive thoughts not, "Oh, so and so died from breast cancer." Stay far away from those people. Have a buddy go with you to your first breast surgeon or oncologist appointment and get a good team of specialists — this is key and the most important step; everything just goes more smooth. Stay active, try to eat healthier. Get a therapist. Go outside. Help others.
