Adriana's Story: Lessons From Cancer During War

Adriana del Giglio is a Breastcancer.org Community member in Tel Aviv, Israel.
I live in Israel, and my family lives in Brazil.
I had noticed a lump in my breast and was rushed for mammography. I am also a doctor, and knew my family history very well. So I noticed the image at the examination room and knew what it was. I traveled to Brazil the next morning, due to the fact that there could be easier and faster to schedule a biopsy.
I still knew it could be other diagnosis, as I was 34 at the time. But in the biopsy room, with other doctors around me, I understood it was It.
I started treatment as soon as possible, and for the rush of the situation, did not freeze my ovules.
I started treatment one day, and the next day, the war exploded in Israel. Life has stopped here and there. Hard to believe everything changed from one day to the next. I had plans, had just rented a new apartment, which I did not even get the keys. My boyfriend at the time couldn't be with me due to the war, and everyone advised me not to go back to Israel for treatment during the war. I was quite lost.
I have done chemo, surgery and radiotherapy. I also got engaged in those months.
Happily, almost a year ago, I managed to come back to Israel, to move with my boyfriend's family (kids from previous marriage). We got married, and now I'm thinking the best way to be a mother.
Life can change from a day to another, enjoy today.
