Tracie's Story: Faith Got Me Through Treatment

I am an advocate for my health. Regular self-breast examinations are part of my routine. This is my story: No cancer was detected at my yearly diagnostic mammography in November 2022. When I completed my self-breast examination in December, nothing stood out. On January 7, 2023, I observed an indentation on my areola and an abnormality in my nipple. I visited my parents' place to show it to my mom. After viewing it, she advised me to see my primary care physician. I had an annual physical appointment with my doctor for January 23rd. Upon my visit to the doctor, she detected a lump and immediately scheduled an appointment for an ultrasound. On January 26, during my ultrasound, the technician detected an abnormality and proceeded to arrange for a biopsy. The planned date for this was January 27, 2023.
I was taken by surprise when breast cancer became the central concern throughout the entirety of the year. I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma, stage I breast cancer, in my left breast on January 30, 2023. This diagnosis had a major effect on every aspect of my existence. It had an impact on everyone who knew me — my loved ones, close friends, and even strangers.
My account for the year 2023: The diagnosis was made in January. Medical visits were scheduled from February to March and continued throughout the year. In April, I gave myself a celebratory breast party, which was focused on breast cancer awareness. The surgery was performed on April 25. The entirety of the cancer was surgically removed. I am cancer free, and I am a breast cancer overcomer. HALLELUJAH!
May was a period of recuperation before commencing chemotherapy over the summer. The period from June 9th to August 11th involved undergoing physical therapy and chemotherapy, culminating in the symbolic act of ringing the bell on August 11, which served as a day of commemoration. During the months of September and October, I actively participated in breast cancer awareness events and had my very first breast cancer photoshoot. In November, I prepared for my upcoming operation pertaining to having had breast cancer. In December, I had another surgical procedure, which was conducted to facilitate my healing process and journey towards full recovery. However, on January 8, 2024, I had another surgery on my left breast because of complications that came up after my previous one on December 20, 2023.
I am grateful that Jesus Christ has been with me. I am stronger and fiercer. Knowing that with Jesus I can overcome any obstacle, I intend to share my testimony to encourage those who are going through difficult circumstances. My focus will be continuing to dedicate my life to serving Jesus, embracing life, and experiencing an abundance of opportunities.
