Position Summary

The Social Media Manager is responsible for increasing brand awareness through the effective use of social media. This person will work closely with the Director of Communications and the full-time Social Media Manager to engage our audiences. They are a skilled storyteller who can work effectively across the organization to amplify the Breastcancer.org brand, our content, our community, and the fundraising efforts to support our mission.

 

Essential Responsibilities

Overall Social Media Strategy

Developing and supporting a comprehensive organic social media strategy for all platforms.

Maintaining the daily social media calendar for consistent and strategic posting.

Organic Content Creation and Engagement

Writing, editing, proofreading, and creating graphics for community-focused organic posts.

Planning and creating engaging content for community growth across platforms (e.g., Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Bluesky, Threads, etc.).

Leading collaborative efforts in community management, including monitoring and responding to comments or messages to foster engagement.

Creating empathy-driven, human-interest content to build relationships with the audience.

Live Events and Thought Leadership

Producing live events and content on social media and/or reels, particularly featuring patient stories or expert conversations.

Supporting and collaborating on thought leadership initiatives for visibility across social platforms.

Industry and Trend Monitoring

Staying updated on the latest industry news, social media trends, accessibility updates, and emerging platforms to recommend and implement improvements.

Broad Analytics and Reporting

Contributing to comprehensive analytics and performance reports.

Using data insights to inform overarching content strategy and community engagement.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Working with internal teams (communications, community, editorial, and development) to align social media efforts with other campaigns and goals, such as:

  • Supporting event promotion.

  • Highlighting Breastcancer.org programs and content.

  • Amplifying organizational achievements or milestones.

Additional Responsibilities

Utilizing and recommending tools and software (e.g., social media management or monitoring tools like Airtable, Sprout Social, or Hootsuite).

Fostering professional partnerships with influencers, advocacy groups, or organizations for potential collaborations.

Providing additional capacity for video creation outside of expert-driven or technical interviews (e.g., creative storytelling or awareness campaigns).

 

Required Skills and Abilities

Solid understanding of digital marketing and social media analytics

Must be a strong storyteller, including excellent writing/editing skills

Creative, collaborative, thoughtful, and optimistic

Ambitious, intellectually curious, solution-oriented, and generous

 

Required Education and Experience

3+ years of experience as a social media manager

Experience in health and/or oncology-related field a plus

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field

 

Work Hours

This is a part-time non-exempt position of 15 hours per week.

 

Work Environment Requirements

The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This job is performed primarily in a remote home-office setting, and on Zoom, free from distractions.

The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.

Occasional travel for team meetings in Philadelphia and New York City may be required.

Prolonged periods of working at a desk on tasks such as reviewing documents and data, responding to emails, and conducting research.

Ability to hear and understand spoken instructions and information during in-person meetings, Zoom meetings, and phone conversations.

Ability to travel by air, train, or automobile.

 

Pay Transparency

Breastcancer.org is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role for individuals who reside and work in certain states and locales. The compensation range considers a wide range of factors which are considered in making compensation decisions including skills, experience, education, and location. A reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role is an hourly rate of $25-40 per hour.
